Broughton Park 1st XV vs Warrington - Match Report

A special mention must go to the referee, who made the 4½‑hour journey from Fishguard, Wales, to officiate the game—thank you for your commitment.

Park made a strong start from the kick‑off, applying early pressure and being rewarded with a straightforward penalty in front of the posts. The visitors soon responded, building pressure of their own and pinning Park inside their 22. Park’s defence stood firm, however, with the visitors unable to find a way through. Even when line breaks were made, Park always had cover in behind.

Eventually, the visitors found a gap close to the Park line and crossed for the first try of the game. From the restart, Park struggled to gain possession, relying largely on Warrington’s inability to throw straight at the line‑out to get the ball back.

The game settled into the middle third, and while Park’s defensive line remained strong, the visitors managed to chip through and regather to score their second try. Park responded positively, finally crossing the line after a much‑improved scrum compared to two weeks ago. Quick hands sent the ball wide for a try in the corner.

Park continued to apply pressure, with the forwards dominating the Warrington pack and forcing the visitors to move the ball through the hands. Warrington closed out the half with a converted penalty.

The second half began poorly for Park, with an error from the kick‑off gifting the visitors a scrum. Warrington used the platform well, gaining good field position before driving over after a series of forward phases.
Park replied soon after with some strong forward play of their own, powering through tackles before showing excellent handling to score their first try of the second half.

With Park now dominant up front, Warrington were forced to spread the ball and search for gaps out wide. They found success on a couple of occasions, kicking through the defensive line to score two further tries.
Park continued to push and eventually crossed the line twice—one effort was held up, but the second was awarded. Unfortunately, the damage had already been done, and Warrington ran out winners.

Final score: Broughton Park 22 - Warrington 34
