Broughton Park Women’s 1st XV vs Manchester – Match Report

Last weekend on a rainy Sunday afternoon, @broughtonparkfc Women’s 1st XV took on a strong-looking Manchester side. The opening ten minutes saw the visitors apply all the pressure, keeping the ball deep in Park’s 22. Despite a solid defensive effort, Park couldn’t hold out forever, and Manchester crossed for the first score of the match.

That early try served as a wake-up call for Park, who began to push the game into the middle of the pitch. The first twenty minutes were mostly defensive for Park, but they held firm. As the half wore on, Park started to play in the visitors’ half, though they struggled to keep possession long enough to build sustained pressure. Much of the half was contested in the middle third, and Park’s powerful scrummaging began to cause real problems for the visitors, disrupting their rhythm and forcing errors. Still, Manchester finished the half as they started — pressing hard against Park’s resilient line.

At the break, Manchester led 10–0.
The second half began with a determined Park side immediately attacking the Manchester 22. Their pressure paid off with a converted try in the first ten minutes, narrowing the score to 10–7. The momentum had shifted, and for the first twenty minutes of the half, Park dominated territory and possession. The next ten minutes saw the game return to the middle third, but on a rare visit to Park’s 22, Manchester broke away for a crucial try.

Final score: Manchester 17 – Park 7.

A tough afternoon for the Broughton Park women — but they showed exactly what they’re capable of with a strong defensive display and a dominant scrum.
