Broughton Park Women's 1st XV 22-19 Didsbury Toc H Ladies
Broughton Park kicked off their season on Saturday with an entertaining pre-season friendly against Didsbury Toc H at Hough End.
Both sides started brightly, but it was Park who struck first. A crooked Didsbury lineout led to an attacking scrum, and with the pack already showing its strength, a series of determined drives eventually took Park over for the opening try.
Park doubled their advantage almost immediately. Winning possession from the restart, the ball was moved wide before the Park full-back showed terrific pace to win the chase down the right and score a superb individual try. The conversion was missed, but Park had raced into a 12-0 lead after just twelve minutes.
The visitors responded well and began to enjoy more possession in the Park half. Their pressure was eventually rewarded as Toc H crossed for their first try to reduce the deficit to 12-7.
Both teams continued to play positive rugby, making for an entertaining contest.
Following the water break, Park enjoyed the better of the territory, but a determined Didsbury side defended strongly and remained firmly in the game throughout.
Unfortunately, I only caught the first half before heading over to photograph the men's cup fixture, but what I did see was a competitive and well-contested game played in great spirit by two committed sides.
The match eventually finished 22-19 to Broughton Park, providing plenty of positives for both teams as they prepare for the season ahead.
